Material Selection Guide

The PVDF coating is the premium aesthetic and lifespan upgrade; it is selected when initial cost is secondary to long-term visual quality and maintenance savings.

• Lifespan Requirement:

  For projects requiring 15+ years of aesthetic quality, PVDF is the essential specification. Acrylic lacquer is the alternative for 5−10 years.

• PVDF Type: Choose Type II (full barrier) for the best performance; Type I is a lighter application providing basic dirt repellency.

• Printing Method: If printing is required, confirm the PVDF surface can be chemically or mechanically prepared to ensure optimal ink adhesion.

Manufacturing and Tailoring

The final manufacturing stage involves the precision application of the PVDF layer over the cured PVC.

• Topcoat Adhesion: A chemical primer or specific surface treatment is applied to the PVC to ensure a permanent, high-strength bond with the PVDF layer.

• Thickness Uniformity: Advanced metering rollers are used to ensure the PVDF layer is applied at a consistent, specified thickness (measured in micrometers) across the entire roll width.

• Surface Testing: Contact angle measurements are performed to verify the low surface energy and high hydrophobic quality of the finished PVDF surface.

• Q: Does the self-cleaning property require direct rain to activate?

  A: The hydrophobic surface means dirt does not stick well. While rain is the primary washing agent, occasional light manual rinsing is still required in very dry, high-dust environments.

• Q: Can the PVDF topcoat be scratched or worn off?

  A: While highly durable, excessive mechanical abrasion (e.g., constant scraping) can damage the coating. However, under normal architectural use, the coating lifespan matches the fabric's life.
