A woven polyester scrim carries the tensile load, while a PVC coating or lamination layer on the outside provides waterproofing, UV resistance, abrasion resistance and weldability. The base cloth can be built from 500D to 1500D yarns, with weave densities ranging from an open 9x9 to a tight 30x32. A heavier grammage does not automatically mean a stronger fabric.

For example, a 550gsm fabric with a dense 1000D 18x17 scrim can outperform a 650gsm fabric built on a weak 500D scrim in tear resistance and dimensional stability. How an OEM PVC Tarpaulin Fabric Is Manufactured

A serious OEM order follows a controlled line from greige fabric to finished roll. The main steps are:

1. Select and heat-set the polyester scrim.
2. Mix the PVC compound with plasticizers, stabilizers, flame retardants, UV absorbers and pigments.
3. Apply the PVC by coating or lamination.
4. Finish, inspect and test the fabric before cutting.

Heat-setting the scrim

The polyester greige is woven first, then heat-set under tension to remove internal stress. This step controls shrinkage and makes the fabric lie flat. If a supplier skips heat-setting, the tarpaulin can shrink unevenly around eyelets, seams and rope hems after exposure to heat or rain.

Coating and lamination

In a coating line, PVC paste is applied to one or both sides of the scrim with a doctor blade or transfer coating process. In a lamination line, a pre-calendered PVC film is bonded to the polyester layer. Both routes produce a composite with a visible coating surface, but lamination is often used when a smooth, printable finish or a precise film thickness is required. The coated fabric is cooled, embossed if needed, and inspected for pinholes, coating coverage, width, GSM and surface defects. How to Evaluate an OEM PVC Tarpaulin Fabric Manufacturer

Before ordering, verify that the supplier can control the production variables that determine field performance.

Look for integrated production

Run the same eyelet or strap pattern you plan to use in production. Observe the covered product after heat, rain or UV exposure. The findings from a pilot roll are worth more than a stack of product brochures.
